After I installed Office 2008, everything worked fine. Then "out of the blue," Entourage wouldn't open. I run Microsoft Database Utility and do "Rebuild." During the latter part of step four (of the five rebuild steps), the progress bar freezes and I get error message, "an error occurred while trying to rebuild your database." I have tried running the Database Utility three times
and keep getting that error. Please help!

Several users have run into this problem. Try deleting this preference file
in your User's --> Library Preferences:

com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist

If that doesn't work, you will most likely need to manually move your data
into a new Identity. I have outlined how to do this.

How to manually move your data in Entourage 2004 & 2008

The Entourage archive (.rge) is the easiest, but does not get category info
for all data. Paul Berkowitz's Export-Import scripts get everything.

Hello Diane,

Thank you for your reply. there is no file "com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist" in my User's --> Library Preferences. It might help to explain that for the past four months, I have used "Daylite" as my contacts-task-calendar managing program. When I made the transition, I was able to import everything from Entourage. I have not used Entourage Office Notifications since, which may explain why there is no plist for that.

What I am wanting to do is just open Entourage so I can look at particular categories of contacts, so I can manually and individually label my Daylite contacts with the correct categories. The steps in your article about moving data will not help, since it is the categories that are the information I need to retrieve. Paul's script does not seem to apply, since it seems to require opening Entourage in order to even access the button to export, although perhaps I am not correctly understanding the use of the script.

I just want to be able to open Entourage to look at the contacts sorted by category. Do you have any other ways I would be able to do that?

Thank you,

Richard
