Were the invitations sent through Exchange with Outlook, or using Outlook through another non-Exchange mail server?
If Exchange is being used, did you try to accept the invitation through Outlook Web Access (which Bill mentioned) to see if it still gives you the accept/decline interface? Are the events already on your calendar?
