[ENTS] Re: Interesting diggings in Pitch Pine

It didn't strike me as sapsucker holes, they seem to usually make them in horizontal rows. However I did a little research and found that they do target Pitch Pine and typically create the tight vertical pattern observed.

Anyone recognize this type of damage on a Pitch Pine? The scars were
in the upper portion of a 40 ft. or so tree. Exposed beetle tunnels
maybe? The tree seems to be doing ok despite the damage:
