     Today Monica and I drove through MTSF on our way to a concert at 
Williamstown. We stopped for a short hike and I measured a white pine up the 
Cold River that is in a small grove on the side of Route #2. I had last 
measured the tree back in April 2003. The changes in dimensions and volume are 
shown below.

      The tree is not in an ideal growing location, but was still able to 
increase its volume by almost 5 cubic feet per year. The volume growth data on 
the Mohawk Pines continues to accumulate. Most of the volume calculations I 
have nade show increases between 5 and 10 cubes with a few trees exceeding 10.
