The sweetgum is a day hike I mostly get to it but canoe the City of
Columbia is letting me work my Friday and Saturday there at the park
with you all and I'm off Sunday and maybe Monday to help. I sorry but
the former champion shumard oak fell about a couple of years ago
looking for a new champion for that species. I know some of the staff
are glad the group is coming out here. I know we can most likely use
the Old Growth Bottomland Forest Research and Education Center. I
been working on a web site just for the trees of the Congaree I hope
to take a bunch of videos and photo of the tree for the web site if
anyone need some help with question let me know (803) 673-7364 cell
On the web site on the champ page sweetgum there is a photo of the
champion tree.
