I used to work outside, but I stopped about 3 years ago, so I could work inside, maintaining and helping to repair the groundskeeping equipment there. Our golf courses are old, and one of them is actually in the Pine Barrens, though right on the edge. During the summer there are pink lady's slipper orchids and a plant called Indian Pipes growing in the woods there. Very cool. But we have them here in our woods as well. And Chris' Dad with snakes and fires and wild dogs! I do hope a trip with Barry, the "honorary Piney", could be organized. (And maybe an evening at pub with Chris' Dad) As for the golf courses, they're inevitable and can offer some good jobs at least. Do you get to work outside at all? At least it's not a mall, right? Oh, I found the Boyd books on the library website. I'm from that part of NJ - and my Dad spent his childhood in the Pine Barrens. He has some pretty hair raising stories. And yes, there are still Pinies down there. I had an adventure about 15 years ago going country western dancin' with some good ole boys at some hall down there. Not only do they have their own brand of English, they have their own brand of CW dancing! It was quite a night. That's all I'll say :) > My Dad used to collect rattlesnakes and bring them to a lab that used to be down there. He has another story about a pack of wild dogs, but Barry, you probably wouldn''t want to know about that. Much of the Pine Barrens is just the way it was 50 or 100 years ago, but sadly in some areas they have put up hundreds or even thousands of McMansions. > On that map that Ed linked to, I live just north or northwest of the yellow dot next to the words Egg Harbor City.
