These photos are great! And what a perfect contrast between what was
going on in Maine and what was going on in the Smokies. There must
certainly have been moonshine in Maine, but I doubt you would find
anyone posing in front of it - all those Protestant Puritans! I'm
going to forward the pix to my family in Maine. They love old Maine
memorabilia.

And I had no idea about the logging practices out west. Gory. I'm
reading an interesting book on Maine land use history called "The
Interrupted Forest" by Neil Rolde. Great book and no romanticizing
about forestry.

And that must be Aralia and Sumac that they're floating down the
Machias...
