I have heard them referred to as Monk Parakeets and as Quaker Parrots. I think 
they are so cool (though I've never been there to see them).

I've been reading about them! I saw  an adorable flock of them at
Pelham Bay Park last week-end. All bright green and tropical looking.
I think they are Quaker Parrots in the Bronx. They seemed to be about
the same size as robins.

They are causing some problems for con ed as they build large nests on
electricity poles, but I am hoping they handle it more humanely than
the city handles pigeon nests and roosting sites. Very sad.

I'd love to get some pix. I'll post them.  I'm glad you asked!
