ENTS,

Last week a friend and I went for a hike in the foothills of southern
New Brunswick. On the way back we took the ferry across the Saint John
River @ Gagetown and stopped to measure a big maple that we had noted
on a bike trip last summer. We were in a bit of a rush so I didn't get
a chance to spend much time trying to positively identify the species,
but I'm pretty sure it's a red maple. I did a quick CBH measurement
which came in at 512 cm (201.6 inch / 16.8 feet), and snapped a quick
photo which I have attached. There are lots of big maples along the
Saint John River valley, but this is one of the biggest I've seen, at
least in terms of girth.
