Jenny, I don't know anything much but what it says in the links I posted. As I understand it the original tree is dead and gone, but one of its offspring, perhaps a third generation offspring is growing at the locality. The men in the story are real historical figures and show up in genealogical listings, so the story is likely to be true for the most part.
