Steve, New Jersey is supposed to have Tamarack/Spruce bogs in the north, but I've not yet been able to visit any of these bogs. I tried once, and couldn't find the one I was looking for. Instead I found a wetland (at the wrong place) that had filled in with the dreaded Phragmites, that horrible invasive that is taking over wetlands all over New Jersey, and I presume, the entire east coast. I live near plenty of Atlantic White Cedar swamps, so am anxious to see Tamarack/Spruce bogs, since they do exist in this state. I find it fascinating that you have Tamarack bogs in Ohio. Unfortunately your embedded photos didn't work. I will have to visit your link. Barry

Herrick Fen, in Streetsboro, has a population of tamarack, and also shrubby cinquefoil and northern bayberry; a couple of photos: . Kent Bog, a glacial kettle bog, was for me the more interesting area, with a much greater number of tamaracks, plus northern species such as leahterleaf, grey birch, and mountain-holly. Highbush blueberry was the dominant shrub layer at Kent Bog., with cranberry also present. Kent Bog is listed as the most southern significant population of tamaracks(3,500). The tamaracks in both areas topped out at only around 40'(48' max in Kent). .
