Subject: [ENTS] flowering shrub ID help

ENTS,

Okay, folks. This is going to be a difficult request, I should think, since
I don't have photos to go on, only clues from memory (a description).

In North Jersey, where I lived prior to March, 1985, there were some strange
shrubs in the woods. They were not in the woods behind our house, but in the
beech (beech/maple I guess) woods a few hundred yards further east. They had
very dark red flowers that were kind of odd-looking, and had a very strong,
very sweet and very fruity scent. Is this enough for anyone to go on?

A few years ago I found out what they were, but I forgot to save the web
page and photos, and so the shrub is lost to memory again. I'd really like
to find out what these things were.

Thanks for your help,

Barry</table
