How are the mosquitoes? We took a wonderful family trip from southern
Oregon to Yellowknife several years ago. I had always seen Great Slave Lake
on maps/globes and always wanted to go
there...and I finally did. Yellowknife itself wasn't much to look at,
but the rocks there are just awesome - a really different landscape.
And it sure doesn't get very dark at night this time of year either!
I found it interesting that as we travelled north through Alberta that
in the south, there was a lot of "prevent forest fires" messages,
especially with pine beetle outbreaks killing trees, but as we went
farther north, it was more a matter of "fires are natural things that
are good for the ecosystem - look how many we have had this year!").
We really enjoyed Wood Buffalo National Park and the salt flats there
(and the buffalo too!),
and going fishing on Great Slave Lake with a young guide and having him cook
us dinner featuring the northern pike that my kids caught...
Wishing you a wonderful visit!
