Pete, I am not from South Carolina (PA instead). Your post appeared on the ENTS list and I am sure some others have read it and may have some information for you, or they may not. I made sure that Vic Shelburne, coordinator of the SC Big Tree Program saw your post. it would be nice if we had some ring counts on the fallen branch where it was cut off. maybe some photos of it and your trees. Larry Tucie is our live oak guru, but he is working out of Mississippi. Do you know the girth of the trees in your back yard and your neighbor's yards? It is just measured with a measuring tape at 4.5 feet off the ground. Is there a website or other contact info for the SC Live Oak Society? I now there is a national Live Oak Society based out of LA.
