Could someone (or several) list some of the basic pointers for tree
ring counting? Some of the recent comments about false rings in oak
have made me wonder if I am seeing rings properly in sawed oak. Trees
that have fallen (mostly dead when fell, all been down for years) and
cut to unblock trails are the subject. I have a cookie from one and
took photos of the others. In all cases the rings seem very evident,
mostly by contrasting color, and almost always have pore sections to
indicate rings. Is it not that simple? These are in the 2-3 foot diam
range.
