Don,

I'll work on a firm date now. Thanks for considering the possibility.

Bob--

It may be possible for me to give a presentation--it has been a while since I
worked in the forests of the west, but I think I still have some interesting
things to say about it...  However, I'm not sure what my schedule will be yet,
and I'm up in northern Wisconsin on some R&R, so I can't commit to this quite
yet...it would be good to have a firmer date...

Don,

You are most welcome. Man, was I rusty on those equations and their
derivations. I had approached the derivations from both the apex and base and
had equations scratched even on the back of napkins. I hope I didn't miss
anything.

Don, Lee, and David,

What is the possibility of you all being presenters at an ENTS-WNTS
conference at Durango next June (late June)? ENTS-WNTS, the San Juan NF, and
Fort Lewis College would be the principal organizers. However, with a little
politicing, we could draw in additional cosponsors. We could have some great
lectures and field trips. The San Juans are at the top of the mountain food
chain in the Rockies, in my not always so humble opinion. Our esteemed
president, Will Blozan has agreed to the event. Maybe we could coax Will into
climbing and tape drop measuring the Schrater Pine and his world record
Colorado blue spruce. Of course the first order of agenda would be for Will to
break all my tree height records, which he has so faithfully (and
embarrassingly for me) done in the past - on all occasions. Under my nose! All!
The focus would be on western old growth, climate change, the tale of the
tree rings, and of course, great tree places in that part of the world. Who
knows, maybe we could coax BVP down out of the sequoias in California, take a
short break, and join us. Bob knows the san Juans well. Folks, Durango is the
perfect place - great mountains, great forests, great people, great food, great
train ride. Shucks, everything there is great. Maybe we could even prevail on
Steve Sillett and his wife to also join us.

Dave,

You, of course, being the Lord of the Rings and the grand eastern Ent,
would automatically become the grand western Ent. That goes without saying. All
joking aside, I've pitched you as an expert at dating junipers (Rocky Mtn and
Utah). Please, please say you are. The San Juan NF needs help in dating those
grand old trees.  Also, we could plan a trip over into the Sangre de Cristo
range to visit some of the oldest narrow leaf cottonwoods on the planet. Do you
know about those trees?

Ed,

It would be great if you could participate with a lecture on the history
and accomplishments of ENTS. Plus, I need a personal tutor in the local
geology.

Lynn,

Any possibility of a bear lecture? You come out and we'll name a great
tree for you. Heck, we'll name a whole grove.

Laura,

We should begin to lay the groundwork for the conference now.  It will be
next year before we know it. We need to set the time as soon as possible so all
can plan accordingly. Darn, I miss Durango!

Bob--

Thanks for the revised manuscript.  I'll piece together the next Bulletin
today, and send it to Ed Frank.
