Barry, beautiful elm with typical irreplaceable form. Some of these
old survivors have been tested by various universities for DED
tolerance and a few released as resistance cultivars. An old majestic
elm here in the Wild Rice river valley of North Dakota has been found
to be resistant to the several strains of DED and released as
'Prairie Expedition' American elm by NDSU. Our elms in Bismarck are
slowly going as they are infected with DED so perhaps some of the
tolerant cultivars will help to reforest our towns and cities in the
future. Greg.
