Jenny,

I have wanted to respond. I'm sure that I, like others, feel helpless. I
personally have no idea of what to even suggest. We all feel your pain.

I am willing to contribute some money to help if funds can be used. Just let me
know where to send a contribution and who to make it out to.

Bob

Subject: [ENTS] Re: help me with doves in trees!

Greg, Russ and everyone,

Thank you for your help and recommendations. I can't get any state agency to
help. The Bronx Zoo won't even help (the woman I spoke with told me in a very
rude way to "cut to the chase" when I was explaining the situation to her.) The
Queens County DEC never even called me back. The NYS DEC did their best to
offer recommendations, but no actual help!

I'm going truly and seriously mad. A pest control guy told me exactly what cage
I needed, which I have to mail order. I can't even find a pest control business
to help because it is on city park property. I have to secure a permit. And
even then, one guy admitted to me that their methods probably were not
appropriate.

There are 40 doves! And the "they" that have actually rescued 25 doves already
are the volunteers at NYC PIgeon Rescue Central. We've been there every day
with our paltry equipment and broken hearts. Not any of the people quoted in
the articles have helped.

I wish I had the energy to post a picture of the wonderful tree they are
perching in that is protecting them from rain and cats and dogs while it's
raining cats and dogs. I don't even know what kind of tree. Which makes me feel
even worse! The best I can come up with is "elm-like". Deeply fissured brownish
bark. Seems to have 'mated' with another of it's kind beside it. Simple leaves
in the beech tree leaf shape, I think they are toothed. opposite branching.
Drooping branches. openly grown. Round canopy.

I know there are still things to do and calls to make but I am so so tired and
sad. Thank you guys so much.

Jenny

Jenny, a local reprentative of your state game commission should be
able to help, even in your town. They trap them by the hundreds here
on our nursery to band them and track migration. There are dove traps
in which they place grain or cracked corn to lure the doves in, they
cannot get out and then can be moved to another location if desired.
Maybe something to check with. Greg.
