Mankind's unbridled exploitation of the Earth will succeed in the
extinction of most of the megafauna that currently exist here. And,
ultimately, in the extinction of Mankind. All things pass, yes, but
humans are like an instantaneous extinction event unto themselves.
Almost as horrid as an asteroid strike. Richard Leakey has it right:
we're in the midst of the great Sixth Extinction. Only this one is
being caused by a species rather than a cosmological/geological event.
Plus, this is the only one that was preventable. Alas, it's too late
now.
