Barry,
I did go look for the White Pine at Word of Life Camp on August 30, 2006.
There was a fire in the white building pictured in your first photo which
burned one side of the tree. The tree died and was removed in 1985.
Parts of the stump remain so I got some rough measurements and an rough
estimate on age.
It appears the circumference was around 13 ft. I counted rings on a portion of
the remaining stump and using that with the approximate circumference got 350
years. Which given the approximate data and the extrapolation of a ring count
from a portion of the tree to the whole tree is at most a ball park age.
I measured several other White Pines on the island with the tallest being 125
and 134 ft. One 134 footer had a cbh of 11.8.
