I just got back from a trip to Sylvania Wilderness in Upper MI. 
Rattlesnake plantain orchids were in bloom there this morning.  They 
have four species that grow in hemlock forests. I think their timing of 
flowering is regulated at least partly by the shortening day length, so 
they should also be in bloom in your area.
