Randy, if you read this, there was no attempt to put you down on my first reply.
It occurred to me that some of us might not know that the cone of a bald cypress shatters in the late fall, releasing usually 20-30 seeds. The shattering aspect is why we don't see fossilized taxodium cones from the far past, I guess. I recently came across a fossilized metasequoia cone from the late Cretaceous, which is very interesting.
