Yes, I remember it as a cottonwood. I recall the tree from my visit in 1998. 
can't remember to put on socks of the same color, but remember trees for years. 
BTW, Tim Zelazo who is the District Manager of the West Region of the Northern 
Berkshire District of DCR is a member of ENTS. If I've had a senior moment on 
the ID of that tree, despite my claims above, Tim can correct the record.

Bob, some years ago....many years ago I went to Natural Bridge State 
Park and there was a large tree as you leave the parking lot and head 
to the geological feature. I cannot remember what it was, I suspect 
a cottonwood? Do you know of the tree I am talking about? I have 
been meaning to get out there again to take photos of the tree and 
verify the species but I just had my second kid. So I dont see me 
getting out there any time soon.
