Bob,
It was a chestnut oak called the Spencer
Oak.

According to the Suffield, CT web site it was 325+ years old and once
stood on the west side of N.Stone Rd. The town's
tree warden, the President of the Suffield Garden Club and a tree
expert serve on a committee to administer the Helena Bailey Spencer
Tree Fund. The web site said the fund is now used to replant trees in
town. The web site list Anita Wardell (860) 668-1477 e-mail
[email protected]. Town tree warden Ron Vidal. Suffield Garden Club
president Gretchen Westhoven.

                                                   I can try and
contact one of them but you would get a better response about the
present condition of the tree and possible chance to visit it.
I forgot to list the 2 caches I placed in Robinson
State Park after the hike we took with you last fall to measure the
tulip trees.
