In my computer I was automatically prompted to download a compatibility pack to 
open that file. It was 27.5 MB, but it did the trick.

Those of us without Word 2007 are stifled in our attempts to
open .docx documents.  To all of you Windows Vista and Word 2007 users
out there, please save your documents in .doc format so that the rest
of us can read them.  Thanks!
