They sure did. So many times we thought we put the fire out and the flames would kick up again. The up slope winds didn't help the cause. I was always amazed how they could grow in such harsh conditions. I've seen bristlecone pine as far east as Colorado. We would laugh more around the bristlecone than any other tree because they just wanted to keep burning. They are one of my favorite trees so we always tried to save them as soon as we could.
