I've never seen any large Table mountain pines. How big do they get? And I see so many groves decimated by beetles that I've always assumed that they don't live long enough to gain any size.
The reason I'm asking is that I encountered on in a part of the Linville Gorge called The Amphitheater. It was larger than most Table mountains pines that I've seen, but it appeared to be very old. It was extremely gnarled and looked to have been in place in the rock for quite some time. I should have taken some photos, but getting down to the base of it would have taken some scrambling and I was just too tired. But I plan to go back. -- Eastern Native Tree Society http://www.nativetreesociety.org Send email to [email protected] Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/entstrees?hl=en To unsubscribe send email to [email protected]
