Don,

we did go to Julian.  In fact I had heard quite a bit about the apple pies 
there and I managed to convince Ellen that we needed to eat lunch in Julian.  I 
had to twist her arm don't ya know!  I'm a big fan of apple pies and I couldn't 
believe that the folks in Julian could make a better one than we could.  I 
think their crust is better but not the apples inside...now we only need to 
work on making a better crust!

At one time the only pie I would put up there with a great apple pie would be a 
great cherry pie but a couple of summers ago Ellen made an absolutely killer 
raspberry pie because we had so many raspberries.  Yum!
