I'm glad that you enjoyed it.  There was a bigger one near LaCrosse, but it
died of blight a few years ago.  That one is supposedly the largest diameter
chestnut still living in Wisconsin.  I see that the squirrels still love to
gnaw on the bark all over that tree.  I know that the rodents must
continuously gnaw to prevent their teeth from growing too long, but the
chestnut bark must taste particularly good to them.  You are fortunate to
have found some burrs.  There were none around when I was there.  They must
have all been raked up at that time.
