The son of Aldo Leopold, A. Carl Leopold, recently passed away.  Carl
received a degree in botany from the University of Wisconsin in 1941.
He served in the Marine Corps in World War II.  After military service
he received his MS and Ph. D. from Harvard.  In 1977 he became a William
H. Crocker Scientist with the Thompson Institute for Plant Research in
Ithaca.  The Institute is associated with Cornell University.  He
retired from there in 1990.  He was the founder or was involved with the
founding of the following organizations: Aldo Leopold Foundation, Finger
Lakes Land Trust, Black Locust Initiative and the Tropical Forestry
Initiative.  He was buried in Greensprings Natural Cemetery, a natural
cemetery in Newfield, NY.  Carl was a co-founder of this institution as
well.
