ENTS

The challenging task of writing a review of a Sibley Guide has
finally sunk in. It is no mean assignment. I can clearly see that
Sibley's drawings are the best of all my guides. His introduction is
well written. There are some significant positives to Sibley's book.
There are negatives too. The question is how negatives are the
negatives? Here is where I will look at other guides for comparison.
Should Sibley be held to a higher standard? I'm inclined to say no.
The review should recognize how other authors have struggled with
issues of size and length of book versus thoroughness in coverage of
each species. I would appreciate the thoughts of my fellow and lady
Ents.

I do see very different levels of coverage among the species
featured in Sibley's guide. It is not always clear why the
differences. One simple explanation is ready availability of
information. I'm not sure it is an acceptable explanation. Thoughts?

I am taking Andrew's cautions to heart. He gave me some good
advice. Will's words also resonate in my ears.
