Scott,

Folks from the Missouri's Tree Ring Lab just sent us a nice prepared cross
section of a white oak we collected last year from within the Fire Tower
Road loop. The tree was estimated to have come down in 2006 with the core
going back to 1657, which put it to 349 years. They dated a definite fire
disturbance to 1689, with another undetermined disurbance in I believe 1865
(just recalling from memory, it's not in front of me at the moment).

I've got a cross section of a white oak that was felled in our campground to
330 rings to a 4" hollow center about 10' up in the air. I don't have the
cookie in front of me, but it's close to 2ft across that high up.
