Hey Jenny,
I was just thinking about this a few nights ago. If you wanted to get sort of a
sneak preview of the NJ Pine Barrens you could hop on the Long Island Railroad
and head out to eastern Suffolk County sometime, and hike in the Long Island
Pine Barrens. There are parks and preserves such as Brookhaven State Park,
Rocky Point Natural Resouces Conservation Area, Peconic Bog County Park, etc.
The LI Pine Barrens has basically the same set of species as ours does, but on
a much, much smaller scale. Unfortunately cedar swamps are quite rare out
there, whereas here they are common.

(It would help to attach the photos, wouldn't it?)
ENTS,
Here are a few scenic photos I took today, another day I had off from the farm.
Hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed seeing the real thing.
The first two pictures were taken on Indian Cabin Road, at the intersection
with the Elwood-Weekstown Road, CR 612. Those are Pitch Pines.

The third picture was taken at the end of Pleasant Mills Road, CR 623, looking
across CR 542 towards the entrance road to the Batsto/Pleasant Mills Church.
Those are Shortleaf Pines with a few Eastern Red Cedars to the right.

The fourth picture was taken in the cemetery of that church. Those are also
Shortleaf Pines, with an Atlantic White Cedar to the right, on the south bank
of the Mullica River.
The vast Wharton State Forest is behind and around this church and cemetery.

All are in Atlantic County, NJ.
Take care,
Barry
