Turner,

Holy huge! I'm sure you checked it against a Shumard possibility.

Subject: [ENTS] Big Scarlet Oak

ENTS: Recently I had a chance to measure the biggest Scarlet Oak (Q.
coccinea) I ever put a D-tape around. Here are the stats: CBH of 211
inches, Ht. at 110 feet, Crown Spread at 84 feet. The tree is located
in Jackson County, WV about 10 miles north of Ravenswood, WV on a
small drain flowing into Skull Run which flows directly into the Ohio
River about 1/2 mile away. Tree is on the edge of a erosional ravine
at 700 elevation with a southern exposure. Tree is on private property
and is part of a small beef cattle operation and it looks like cattle
have at least occasional access to the timbered areas. This tree has
been in the WV Big Tree Database since 1977. At that time it was
listed at 193 inches CBH, 125 feet of Height, and 75 feet of Crown
Spread. The tree appears to be in decline with some rot at its base
and has recently lost some height and about to lose some crown spread.
