Barry,

My first guess- going on nothing other then the photos- would be black oak
Quercus velutina.

Subject: [ENTS] Big oak in Elwood, NJ

Lately I've been fighting a bad cold, and have not been at the cranberry
farm. On Sunday I was passing through Elwood on the way up from Weymouth to
Batsto, and I stopped my truck on the road to snap these pictures. I've been
by this tree hundreds of times, but never thought to really take serious
notice of it before. Off the top of my head I'm not sure which species of
oak it is. Nice, huh? If I were to take a guess, I'd say the CBH is maybe 11
or 12 feet, maybe? Something like that. Nice and tall too.
