Steve, Its the first time I've grown them from seed, they open without fire and fall to the ground. The grass stage is a period of 5-7 years while there tap root develops. They then grow tall after this period, fire is used to supress undergrowth and competition for the older trees. I hope I'm Ianswering your question?
