Good question about resolutions. I'm starting to think about some
New Years tree resolutions. Here's what comes to mind at this point.
1. I resolve to bug Andrew Joslin and Will Blozan until at least one
of them climbs the Jake Swamp white pine and from its crown loudly
proclaims it to be the greatest tree on the planet.
2. I resolve to buy at least two, no three, new laser rangefinders
(gotta help the economy).
3. I resolve to write one poem about trees and humbly submit it to the
harsh judgment of my fellow and lady Ents. Any resemblance to Robert
Frost, William Cullen Bryant, Carl Sandburg, etc. will be purely
accidental.
4. I resolve to confer with Treebeard prior to naming any more trees.
So all of you will know that any new tree name has been personally
sanctioned by Treebeard.
5. I resolve to bug Jenny until she creates a tree video for us using
baroque as background music.
6. I resolve to brush my teeth in the morning as well as at night
(oops, sorry, not a tree resolution).
7. I resolve to develop 3 new tree measurement formulas and tie them
to E = mC^2 or the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, thereby
demonstrating that tree measuring is the basis for the evolution of
all things large and small.
8. I resolve to say nothing critical about folks who continue to
advocate use of the tangent method (just kidding).
9. I resolve to work with Will, Ed, Lee, Don, Steve, etc. to develop a
useful ENTS tree measurement database (see, I can be serious).
10. I resolve to visit my tuliptree in Ohio (also serious).
11. I resolve to hold up my end of the agreement with Don Bertolette
to eat lots of Friendly's sherbet- oops, not a tree resolution. Never
mind.
12. I promise to make better use of my GPS to document tree locations,
provided the temperature is above freezing, I had a good breakfast,
and there are no pesky insects buzzing around.
Well, enough for now.
