Barry and other ENTS, You are right that most of this latest post is repeated - the 12/29 report is new stuff and so is the stuff about Bear Rd. School's giant White Oak. The bulk of the post consists of summaries of all heights measured in the North Syracuse oak groves so all the height information can be found easily in one place - there are very few trees left to measure in either grove. These summaries will also be sent to property owners (Wizard of Oz Oak Grove to North Syracuse Central School District, North Syracuse Cemetery Oak Grove to North Syracuse Cemetery Association) in an effort to preserve these important (and rare here in overbuilt central NY State) old growth oak groves; preservation status for the Wizard of Oz Oak Grove is good but the survival of the North Syracuse Cemetery Oak Grove is uncertain - that site has been under some kind of threat since my childhood long ago. Besides, the tree measuring season is over here with winter hitting us hard - we have a foot of lake effect snow (courtesy of Lake Ontario) and a lot more to come every day for the next 8 days at least.
