Preface Please join us for the 28th Annual convention of the Indonesian Association of Geologists (IAGI), to be held on 30 November - 1 December 1999. This year convention theme will be "Toward a Higher standard of Professionalism". The program will be focused on technical papers, posters and panel discussions, which as much as possible reflect the higher standard of Professionalism in facing the new millennium challenges. 2. Venue The convention will be held at newly opened Bidakara Complex, Jl. Jendral Gatot Soebroto 71-73, Pancoran, Jakarta Selatan. 3. Presenter Information The Technical Program Committee cordially invites all of you to contribute your paper to our program. The accepted papers will be published in both printed convention proceedings and CD-ROM. They will be distributed world-widely and to selected geological institutions and universities. This will give authors the opportunity to preserve their work for future reference. The papers will be selected for oral or poster presentation by judge panel of experts. Papers are due by 31 July 1999. Authors will be notified for presentation acceptance after 31 August 1999. Paper Topics Papers submitted will be categorized into the following topics: A. Engineering Geology Development and Application to Newly Established Industrial Regions. I. Environmental Management toward Higher Living Standard J. Defining Added-Value Concept of Indonesian Mineral Resources K. Economic Viability of Indonesian Natural Resources L. Recent Development in Paleontology M. Volcanology & Geothermal Resources N. Natural Resources Law and Policy O. Geology Application in Petroleum Engineering and Reservoir Management P. Company Acquisitions and Economic Considerations Papers Format Papers should be submitted in digital form of email or floppy disk. Abstract should contain no more than 250 words (English version) as it will be printed on the convention guidebook. For paper, please put figures separate from the text. A team of editor will review the papers prior to its publication. Any revision of full paper will be accepted before 1 November 1999. Please use MS-Word format for the text with 10-point Times New Roman typeface. Figures may be in MS-Power point or CorelDraw formats. If you are using different applications, please convert to ASCII or rich text format (RTF) for your text and JPG, TIFF, GIF format for your figures. Name your files using your last name and add the file extension. Please mark "Paper" on the upper right envelope. Oral Session Formats Speaker will have 20 minutes, including time for questions. Speakers are encouraged to present their paper in English. Speaker will have the option of using: 35-mm slide projectors, overhead transparent projectors (OHP) or PC-based electronic projectors. Please indicate your preferred presentation when you submit the paper. Speakers using 35-mm slides or OHP will be provided with two screens, two projectors and a pointer. Speakers who plan to use PC-based projection must supply their own hardware and software. Speakers are strongly urged to take time and care in the preparation of their presentation materials. Our most common complaints focus on: quality, clarity and readability of visual aids when projected in large session rooms. Poster Session Formats Poster session authors will be given a new presentation format. Author will give a brief overview of their paper to the poster visitors. This is designed to improve the transfer and exchange of concept in small, informal discussion groups. Geological Photo Contest Since it was started firstly in 21st IAGI annual convention - 1994, the contests have been highly participated. This year the committee will hold a similar contest. Photos can be in the form of: outcrops, volcanic activity, earthquake, petrography, mineralogy, and other geological related activities. Everryone can join the contest by submitting 10R size photographs. Please give a title and short remarks on the photographs. You have to submit the photographs before 31 October 1999 to Committee Secretariat (address shown at the end). Please mark "Photo Contest" on the upper right envelope.
