I would like to encourage you all to have a look at the newly launched Global Forest Watch website at www.globalforestwatch.org. GFW is an international network of groups monitoring the forests. We had our official launch yesterday and released three reports - on Canada, Cameroon and Gabon. The Gabon and Cameroon reports are available on line already; Canada report will be on line by early next week. This is only the beginning so stay tuned! Members of the LEAD family are a part of this exciting project. Besides myself (LEAD Canada, Cohort 7), Olga Tarakanova of Cohort 7 LEAD-CIS is involved in doing forestry remote sensing work in Russia. Andrei Laletin, Cohort 8, LEAD CIS is the GFW Coordinator in Siberia. Both of them are here in Washington, D.C. for our first international meetings this week. As our program extends into other countries that are part of the LEAD network (including eastern Europe, Brazil and Indonesia), I hope that other members of LEAD can be involved and help us in our work. For those of you in Canada - there is an article in today's Globe and Mail on the Canada report in the business section. Best regards to all.
