From: "Sean Khan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Solving Land & Water Issues in Africa Date: Mon, 8 May 2000 15:52:09 +0300 Dear All, I would like to invite you and colleagues in your network, to participate in a discussion on "Land and Water degradation In Africa". The goal of this initiative is to build a GEF resource base of experts and institutions and also gather recommendation for the GEF on the issue. The question "what has worked and why ?" is currently being debated with the view of facilitating replication of good practice and to assist in the selection of pilot projects. The GEF would like us to deepen our discussions on success at this stage. The geographical scope has been broadened now to encompass all developing countries. We would thus like to revisit this topic on the discussion forum using the following format. A - name of project, B - source of funding C - Country D - Lead local institution E - Scale of operation (local, district, national, regional, basin, sub-basin etc.) F - Factors which contributed to success ( e.g., Policy and regulation framework, institutional arrangement, incentive structure, scale of implementation, specific capacity building activities, personal/community commitment etc.) If you can are interested in contributing please register at the link below: http://gef-forum.unep.org/gen_registration.asp You may view the dialogue thus far as a "guest" using your internet browser: http://gef-forum.unep.org:8080/~land-water If you have difficulties please send me an email.
