I can't give you the real reason. But perhaps Nikon have problem with
including their thechnologies for some kind of lenses.
Including the AFS & VR in the same lens will pump up very much the lens
weight. Canon have not the same problem, in general the IS lenses are lesser
or equal weigthed ! Just wait & See !
About the VR himself, I can't say anything, but perhaps that want to make a
big noise with their VR due to the Canon edge in this domain. (1 VR lens - 8
IS lenses).
Who knows ?? :)
