Does the R2K allow you to leave some of the film out of the cassette? 
Buy the least expensive roll of film that you can find and use it.  This
would allow you to reuse and reuse the same film since you are not
interested in the actual images.

At worst you might invest as much as $5 on your testing which isn't much
considering that you are learning.
