I often shoot bands in crowded clubs, so I keep my lens hood on as a
kind of "bumper" and "umbrella," to keep people from bumping into the
lens, and to protect it somewhat from the occasional spilled drink.  And
the built in flash on my A2 does cast a shadow on distant subjects at
wide angles, even without the 'hood.
