I did this recently. I do very little indoor work but was asked to cover a
new building opening and reception. Even with 800 spd film it was too dark
for handheld so I set the 1v in manual mode at moderate aperture (f5.6 from
memory) and 1/90, and let the flash (EX550) do the rest. I was a little
uncomfortable at times as it was showing 2 and 3 stops or more under
exposure, but I hung tough - I figured subject movement would get me if I
slowed it down anymore. They came out well. A couple were slightly under but
the rest were good, and the client was very happy.
