After looking over the current offerings here and elsewhere, I found a 6
month old EOS 3 on eBay for $790, with boxes, etc. The seller had sold
several other expensive camera items and received good feedback over the
past two years, so I felt comfortable with the purchase.

Based on this thread, the "CW" seems to make that a little high, but it was
a comfortable trade-off for me versus the cost of a new one. But as others
have noted, eBay is generally a high-water mark, so it does seem there's a
softening in price.

just my 2 worth.

Are you referring to the EOS3 or $1200 for the two items together. If you
want close to $1200 for the EOS3 you'd better post it on Ebay. There seems
to be plenty of nuts bidding on Ebay who seem to be more than willing to pay
more than new mail order price for used EOS gear.

I wrote a guy bidding on a BP-E1 that he had over bid, (bid $152 but could
get it at B&H for $125). In the meantime someone out bid him and paid $167
for the thing. Couldn't believe it.

A reasonable price might be 75% of B&H new. No one really cares what was
paid at the local store.
