Greetings, all. I've had my D30 for a bit less than a week and have generally
been quite happy. Not enough experience for a dissertation, yet, but certainly
having fun.

One point of unhappiness, however, is that I appear no to be able to use my
ML-3 ring flash with the D30. I've read that such a flash would have to be
fired in manual mode, but the flash appears to be incapable of that. It doesn't
go off, no matter what I try. Reading the camera's manual and the various
sources of information on flashes suggests to me that it's simply incompatible
and I'll have to buy one of the new MR-14EX units if I want to again be able to
light up my macro subjects. The new flash certainly would be a step up, but
I'm not happy about having to shell out about $450 for it.

So, I'd appreciate it if anyone could confirm my understanding. Also, if the
flash truly is incompatible, is it at all useful or should I just sell it? It worked
just fine with my Elan IIe, so I'm kind of disappointed about this aspect of the
change of cameras (in addition to losing the eye-control function).

Cheers,
-Sam
