Distortion goes as the square of the FOV when expressed as a percentage of
the FOV. Since the FOV of the D30 is 0.63 times that of a 24 by 36 mm piece
of film, the relative amount of distortion will be just 40% as much. This
takes into account the need to magnify the D30 output 1.59 times as much as
the film.

The answer to question b) is "it depends". Because the image from the D30
must be magnified more, the aberrations in the center of the image will
always be more pronounced. At the edge of the field of view for the D30 the
elimination of the corners normally seen by the film may or may not make up
for the magnification.
