Unfortunately it does tend to collect some dust over time. I've had my
70-200 about a year longer than the 100-400 and the 70-200 is still
completely clean, but the 100-400 has some dust on the inside elements. I
must say that I have taken it to the most dusty western (desert) parts of
this country and on some severely dusty dirt roads. My 35-350 has been
cleaned three times already (the last time there was some obvious moisture
on the inside elements)
I think the very nature of a 'push-pull' design has to suck in some dust
over time when extending it: its unavoidable.
