If you can't, but we promise not to mention the Sultan

Dave's" website? (Herzstein's Illuminating Flash
Tips?)
It's really inexcusable that none of the information
about Canon's flash exposure philosophy is properly
documented in any printed Canon material that actually
comes with the products! It does make sense if
properly explained, but I'll agree with the original
querent that it is initially counter-intuitive.
